Tips to Move from Stressed to Strong for the Holiday Season

Holidays! As if we weren't stressed enough with life, we decide to create more of it from October through January 1st.

Create a map of what you wish to accomplish between now and December 31 to stay stress-free during the holidays.

Celebrations involve the squeezing in of longer lists along with the emotional swings of remembering loved ones, no longer with us, or witnessing someone's last time at annual family gatherings.

Who said the holidays should be this way? Is it possible to create a space to celebrate our gifts instead of exchanging them? Is it possible to celebrate our strengths instead of hailing our stress as some kind of trophy we carry in our oversized bags?

Hmmm...what's your answer? Speak LOUDER...I can't hear you!

A few weeks ago, I spoke to a group of mental health practitioners about stress vs. strength. Their tired voices spoke of work overload, mind drain and dread of vacation.  Well, if the day-to-day grind is getting to them, how will they enjoy the sights and sounds of trick or treaters at the doorstep? the smell of the turkey? and the ho-ho-ho of santa?

I have 4 ideas to keep you sane and strong in the weeks head. Let’s talk!

1.  Map it out!

Imagine you are an event planner. Wouldn't you come up with a plan months before the event so that the day is exactly the way your client wanted it?  No, you need to visualize the experience from start to finish…the details, the staff, the guests…all of it!

CREATE A MAP OF WHAT YOU WISH TO ACCOMPLISH BETWEEN NOW AND DECEMBER 31. JOT DOWN 3 THINGS YOU WANT TO GET OUT OF THIS FUN AND SACRED TIME OF YEAR.  THAT’S ONLY 60+ DAYS!

2.  Reflect.

If the holidays bring up past memories that still hurt and times with loved ones who are no longer here, take a time out.

LIGHT A CANDLE AND SURRENDER YOUR SUFFERING. ASK THE LIGHT TO HEAL YOUR HEART SO IT CAN OPEN TO THE PRESENT AND ENJOY THIS MOMENT.  LOOK AT PICTURES OF YOUR LOVED ONES AND SEND THEM A HEARTFELT HELLO.  THEY WILL FEEL IT AND SEND IT BACK TO YOU TOO!

3.  Pull your holiday ritual out of the closet.

Dust it off so it can shine again!

MAKE OR BUY SOMETHING THAT WILL TRIGGER YOUR HOLIDAY SELF-CARE RITUAL.  I HAVE A QUOTE THAT I POST AND READ EVERY DAY TO KEEP ME SMILING, TENDER AND RESTED DURING THESE SUPER BUSY TIMES.  WHAT ABOUT YOU?

4.  Listen!  Organize or attend a workshop or lecture.

DO YOU NEED INSPIRATION OR WAYS TO BETTER CARE FOR YOURSELF AND OTHERS?  AS A SPEAKER, I MEET WITH PEOPLE WHO CRAVE TIPS AND TRICKS ON POSITIVE LIVING IN OFFICES, HOSPITALS AND HOMES.  LET ME KNOW HOW I CAN HELP YOU!

May the holidays feed you with love, light and possibilities!
